I have upgraded and I have experienced strange things. Sometimes the different (alpha) versions of WB4 cause different strange things to happen. Hang in there. It's *alpha*. All this will be worked out eventually.

The first alpha was the only one I could run... the second crashed explorer.
Just installed the new one though and so far it's working fine. woohoo!

I am really jealous. I can't get any of the alpha to work. Each version gets worse for me. The e version won't connect to my email with outlook. All the versions lock up IE. The d version locked up explorer.
I see a pattern here with IE and I suspect my IE is messed up from the Xuipter incident of 2002. Why Stardock got messed up with them I will never understand.
I tried to reinstall IE but it won't let me.
Would anyone know a solution to fix IE so I could see what everyone is liking about the new wb.

mmm, actually.... Ms D

go here, download this app, run it and it will make sure X is gone completly, then do to the MS update site and run the autoupdate and it should fix your IE...

Thanks for the link. I downloaded that program last week from another thread.

It did find more Xuipter stuff but when all was said and done I lost the search function in IE. I now have to use netscape if I want to search the web.

The removal instructions at Xuipter does not remove everything. I have removed at least a dozen registry entries that had Xuipter in them and Active X controls plus everything on my pc that had Xuipter in it and still Spybot found more.

I did put back what spybot deleted but that didn't restore my search.
I wonder if anyone ever submitted Xuipter to Symantic to see if it is not a virus. Sure acts like one.

Sally, you should be able to repair IE through 'add and remove programs' in the Control Panel...

There is a way to bring back the Search page into the left search panel in IE, but it involves playing with the registry.
You can download and execute this reg file http://www.google.com/default.reg and it should bring back the search panel the way it was by default.

Ooooh! A new alpha! Woo! You mean, I might actually be able to reinstall it again! I finally had to give up on 3.9b because it kept insisting on skinning my console windows... even though I had that turned off, and the skin it was using wasn't even on my system anymore... and I wasn't even using a windowblinds skin at the time.

Something about the console hook was... eh... a bit aggressive? Wouldn't have minded so much - except that the skin it was using wouldn't properly skin the window!
